In 1997 an Appreciative Inquiry was launched with a global automotive manufacturer to discover how border plants in the United States and Mexico could best work together. This inquiry engaged people at all levels of the plant. As soon as the interviews started there was an immediate positive cultural change and improved workings relationships. In 2000, a second project was started with a core team in knowledge management using the Appreciative Inquiry process to better understand tacit knowledge of engineers in R&D areas.
