The Appreciative Inquiry approach has been used with several Michigan universities and community colleges to help academic and continuing education departments discover their strengths and market opportunities in order to best serve their students and work with community stakeholders. The process has been used with internal departments to help administrators, staff and faculty imagine and re-design programs, structure, and delivery styles.
This approach has resulted in a blend of excellent customer service ratings and positive working environments for these organizations. Some of the success stories include improvements in internship programs for both traditional and non-traditional students, interface with the business community in student recruitment & placement; new undergraduate and graduate curricula, cooperative education programs, global experiences, new partnerships with business & government organizations; and new types of seminars, workshops and new courses/workshops called: “Appreciative Inquiry: A Positive Approach to Leading & Managing Organizations.”
